Blur is a relationship app where people connect through conversation before photos are revealed. This policy explains what information we collect to run the app, how we use it, and the real choices you have — including how to delete your account or specific pieces of your data.
This policy applies to the Blur mobile app and its supporting services. It describes our actual, current data practices — not a future roadmap. If something changes about how Blur handles your data, we'll update this page and adjust the date above.
To create and run your account, we collect:
We use the information above to operate Blur's core features: creating and securing your account, showing your profile to others, powering discovery and matching, enabling chat, verifying you're a real and eligible person, and diagnosing bugs or crashes so we can fix them.
We do not use your activity in the app to build a behavioral profile or feed an algorithmic recommendation engine. Blur's matching is intentionally simple — it does not try to learn and predict who you'll like based on your usage patterns.
We do not sell your personal data, and Blur has no advertising or marketing SDKs of any kind — there is nothing in the app set up to share your data with ad networks.
We do share limited data with a small number of service providers, only as needed to run the features above:
These providers process your data only to help us provide the service — not for their own separate purposes.
Profile photos are required to complete a Blur profile and are shown to other users. Identity-verification images and any verification video are not shown to other users — they're reviewed internally by our safety team to confirm your identity, and stored separately from your public profile.
You can delete an individual photo at any time from within the app without deleting your account — this removes it from our storage as well, not just from view.
Chat is optional — you can use Blur without ever sending a message. Message content is stored so the conversation feature works and so both participants can see their own chat history. If you delete your account, your existing conversations remain visible to whoever you were speaking with, but no further messages can be sent by either side.
Identity verification (a selfie or short video, or Aadhaar-based verification) is optional and not required to use Blur's core features, but it affects the trust signals shown on your profile. Selfie/video verification is reviewed by our internal safety team; Aadhaar-based verification runs through a dedicated verification provider as a two-step process. We also maintain reporting and blocking tools so users can flag or avoid people who violate our terms.
If you allow notifications, we store a device token to deliver them — you can decline this permission and still use Blur. We always collect crash and error diagnostics and general app-interaction data (such as which screens or features are used) to keep the app working and fix problems; this isn't something you can turn off individually, and it isn't used to build a personalized recommendation profile.
Blur runs on Amazon Web Services (AWS), which hosts our servers and stores photos and other files you upload. We use a dedicated SMS provider to deliver verification codes, an error-monitoring provider for crash diagnostics, and a dedicated identity-verification provider for Aadhaar-based checks. Each of these providers only processes the specific data needed for its purpose.
When you delete your account, most of your personal data is removed immediately — see Account Deletion below for exactly what happens right away.
Some information — your account record, message history, and identity verification material — may be retained for a period afterward. We keep this only for specific, legitimate reasons: to resolve safety or fraud reports that were already in progress, to avoid orphaning other users' own records (like a report they filed, or a match you shared), and to meet legal obligations.
We don't currently have an automated, fixed-schedule process that purges this retained data on a set timeline. If you'd like retained data removed sooner, email privacy@blurmeet.com and tell us what you'd like deleted — we'll act on it directly.
You can permanently delete your account and its data at blurmeet.com/delete-account, or from within the app. Deletion takes effect immediately:
This cannot be reversed. See Data Retention above for what happens to the small amount of information kept afterward.
You don't have to delete your whole account to remove some of your data. You can delete individual profile photos at any time from within the app — this permanently removes them from our storage. For other specific data you'd like removed while keeping your account, email privacy@blurmeet.com and tell us what you'd like deleted; we'll handle it directly rather than through an automated self-service tool.
Data sent between the Blur app and our servers is encrypted in transit. Access to our internal systems is limited to people who need it to operate the service. No system can be guaranteed to be completely secure, but we take reasonable, ongoing steps to protect your information and will notify you if we become aware of an incident affecting your data.
Blur is intended only for people 18 years of age or older. We check your date of birth when you create an account and do not knowingly allow anyone under 18 to register. If we learn an account belongs to someone under 18, we will remove it.
We may update this policy as Blur changes. If we make a change that materially affects how we handle your data, we'll update the date at the top of this page.
